Shataakshi is a founder of the Art of Freedom Project working with Afghan young women on Peacebuilding. She returned from Kabul last year after two years of her work with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in Afghanistan as labour, training and gender policy expert.

She has documented important social issues through photographs and films for NGOs across India and Afghanistan. As an artist she has been awarded a British Council grant recently to work with women Afghan artists on gender and peace. She curates and directs a gender and arts festival in Mumbai to create opportunities for artists from marginalized genders . She is also currently working with a collective of women and queer individuals in producing the first children’s queer story book in a vernacular language.
